Before founding Algebra in 2016, he served in strategy and marketing roles at HSBC Amanah, the global Islamic financial services division of the HSBC Group, and Fajr Capital, a pioneering private equity and advisory group backed by the governments of Abu Dhabi, Malaysia and Brunei, as well as the HSBC Group and the Saudi-based Alsubeaei family.
He is a visiting faculty member at the Karachi School of Business & Leadership, and writes and speaks on the topics of prophetic persuasion, persuasion at work, storytelling, strategic planning, and governance.
Abdur-Rahman holds a bachelor's degree in politics and religion from Harvard University, with post-graduate study in political philosophy at the University of Chicago and Boston University.
He splits his year between Dubai and Michigan.
